Imagine stepping back in time to, say, around 1937. If you lived in Los Angeles, you could ride on a yellow streetcar like this. Shirley Temple dedicated the first one when she was a popular child star.
Today, this streetcar zips along the Embarcadero of San Francisco. It picks up passengers at this historic Ferry Building, where you can still catch a ferry across the bay.
Inside this building you’ll find all kinds of goodies. Coffee, of course. Fresh fruits and veggies. And my favorite place — a patisserie.
After touring the Ferry Building, we hopped on the streetcar. It’s antique and it’s simply awesome.
This week’s song is “Big Yellow Taxi.” When these streetcars traversed Los Angeles, they were called “Yellow Cars.” So I’m going with a variation on the theme. They certainly do taxi a lot of people to and fro along the wharf.
If you’re ever in San Francisco, look for these Big Yellow Cars. It’s worth every bit of the $2 fare to sit back and be transported to an earlier era. And stop for coffee and a bit of pastry, too!
How about you? Have you ever ridden an unusual kind of “taxi”?
Linking up with a song-inspired party, Song-ography, where the theme this week is “All Kinds of Kinds.”

How neat! Such a cool ‘car’! I’m not sure I’ve ever even ridden in a taxi, putting it on my bucket list!
I love your streetcar. I drove them back in the late 1960’s in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The city still has streetcars but the old PCC’s are long gone.
Looks as if you have had a lovely outing!
How cool is that! You live in such a fun area!
Love your shots here of this big Buss in San Francisco. I have been on this bus an dlove the experience. great post!
Definitely want to ride that yellow bus, great photos!

So interesting! I’ve been to SF a couple of times, but I’ve only seen the red trolleys. Never a yellow one. I will sure to be on the lookout the next visit. Love that city :). Thanks for the tour. And thanks for joining in on Song-ography.
cool shots! That could be the Magic Bus…didn’t get mine up yet, but enjoying all the others for Songography! Aloha
Hi Sharon,
Love the bright yellow street car! In Bruxelles there were similar (just green ones :), I loved the drives! Such a lovely market with all kinds of delicious treats … You’re post does uplift one’ s spirits – blue skies and yellow street cars 🙂
Sunshine to your week,
Nina

i have never had a “street car” experience but it’s something i’m sure i would love!!
great images for today’s song!!
I wonder if one day our youth will romanticize our current modes of transportation and technology? Thanks for giving us the tour – I imagine it would be delightful to travel the trollies.
I’d love to ride one of these yellow streetcars in San Francisco! I’ve only had the pleasure of the more modern red trolleys, so I’ll definitely have to look for the vintage ones the next time around… looks like you had a wonderful time in one of my favorite cities 🙂
I have long wanted to go to SF… it is definitely on my list of ‘must go’ places
