Figuring Out How to Walk

Learning to walk takes a lot of thought. If you’ve never walked before, it just doesn’t come naturally. You have to practice with all your being.

The first few days you try it, you have to concentrate. Lift one foot, then the other. Remember to balance. Pump the legs. Faster, faster.

You can practice your new skill in the middle of a crowd . . .

or all by yourself.

Once you get up and get going, it’s sometimes hard to stop.

It helps to have an example to follow, and someone to encourage you.

You find out that walking can take you to places of wonder.

Once you get the hang of it, you won’t want to crawl again. Crawling is slow, and you can’t see as much of the world.

We learned how to walk long ago, but we can still enjoy learning something new. We may have to concentrate. It may not come naturally. But we shouldn’t be afraid to tackle something new.

How would you like to expand your world? What skill would you like to work on? What wonders do you want to explore?
