Amsterdam is full of charm and some of this comes from the canals busy with boats and the bridges lined with bicycles. The buildings that date back to the 1600s contribute to the appeal of Amsterdam, but let’s focus on the bikes and boats for now. To give you an idea of what to expect if you visit this lovely city, it is criss-crossed by about 165 canals and you can walk or ride over about 1,500 bridges. The canals and bike-lined bridges of Amsterdam are a wonderful place to wander. You don’t need an agenda. Just set out and stroll and take in the sights.
All kinds of boats ply the water, and it’s estimated that about 2,500 houseboats line the canals.
It’s said that Amsterdam has more bikes than people. Bikes decorate every bridge and all the streets.
The residents get creative with their bicycles. They fashion extra seats for children and design ways to travel in comfort.
The buildings that are hundreds of years old frame the scene perfectly.
How about you? Have you been to Amsterdam? Would you like to go?

Fascinating! I used to think it would be fun to live on a houseboat – not so much anymore – but they sure are fun to look at! I also love that bike with the lounge chair – I’d really like to see someone riding that!
Before reading the text, I thought -hey, I know where this is:):) – because I took a photo of the black house.
If you remember that Holland is my country of origin. Now my son ended up there in August, after his graduation and landed a job there. I don’t know if that saying is true, because in 5 years his bike has been stolen 3 times! Love the atmosphere the canals and many, many bridges bring to this city. Many thanks for sharing this with ALL SEASONS and have a beautiful December week!
Terrific photos! What fun!
Great phtoos! Thanks for sharing! Amsterdam is such a fantastic city! When I was there last time, I took a tour on a boat through the canals. So much fun!
I visited Amsterdam many years ago but I didn’t give the city the attention it deserved. Need to go back and explore in my own terms. I am sure I will fall in love with city. #WordlessWednesday
I haven’t been to Amsterdam *yet* , but I hope to visit soon. Your beautiful pictures are making me want to add it to this year’s itinerary, Sharon. 🙂 #worldesswednesday
I think you did a wonderful job capturing the essence of Amsterdam. Yup! Bicycles galore and I love it. Your pictures are great!
Amsterdam is one of my favourite cities. We actually tried to book a house boat for our last stay but couldn’t get one unfortunately. Your post brought back great memories.
