When Lilacs Bloom

What signals spring for you? One of the most welcome signs of the season for me is blooming lilacs. We don’t have them where I live, but they are in the mountains about an hour’s drive from my home. The trick is that they bloom only a short time, and I’ve missed their show the last few years.

This year, I wound up the mountain in search of daffodils, another spring favorite. The early warm temperatures brought these out weeks ahead of schedule and they were almost all withered and gone. But the good side of the balmy weather is that the lilacs are early, too. What a welcome surprise!

A bush laden with lilacs has such vibrance against the background of a bare tree that still waits for this year’s leaves to sprout.

I think the lilacs take on a special beauty alongside the budding apple trees.

April’s flowers bloomed in March, and I caught them at their peak. What a refreshing day, full of sun and good conversation and the scent of spring.

How about you? Where has spring caught you by surprise this year?

Beautiful lilacs, Sharon! And the colors are gorgeous! My surprise this Spring is that I have been painting this Spring already twice on paintings that I started years ago, and am finishing now!
It would be great to link one of these gorgeous images to SEASONS- Last of March this week (Mon-Wed. till 7pm Pacific time). Hope to see you there and have a happy Spring-y week:)

Wow, lilacs! That’s June to me. 🙂
My nice surprise was that just after the snow disappeared, there were snowdrops underneath. Now I see some crocus as well.

Spring arrived too early this year. I think it caught me by surprise because I visited the desert recently and you cannot imagine how many flowers I saw.

We area in the Southern Hemisphere, so no signs of spring – only autumn coming now. Beautiful flowers.

We’re a few weeks off from Lilacs blooming here yet. I think they are so pretty (but they make me sneeze). You captured some lovely shots of them.

That is one thing I miss-lilacs. And I would have to drive 5-6 hours to see them (one way)! Your shots make me smell them. and it happens to be another of my favorite scents.

Those lilacs are lovely!! We’ve had a really wacky winter, so spring had been playing peek-a-boo with us. Hoping it will stay for real now…

Nothing says spring like the daffodils and lilacs. You have some beautiful purple ones . They are deliver a stronger scent than the white ones I think, both are so pretty and so welcomed after a dreary winter.
