What I Found by the River

Mission Trails

Have you been surprised lately by some small, unexpected discovery? I went for a hike along the river, where I hadn’t been in several weeks. Curious about whether winter was on its way, I did find trees nearly bare. Last leaves look lonely. But tenacious.

The river is still flowing through the old dam, even though we’ve had a record dry year.

Across the bridge — look what I found!

Yes, this happy lady is out for a walk with her guinea pig. He enjoys fresh air, she explained. And he loves attention. And hikers love little guinea pig.

The river refreshes me. Here’s the back side of the dam.

It’s a place of peace. I found a new sense of calm. I left ready to ease back into daily life. Confident that fun little surprises would be just over the bridge, no matter the season.

How about you? What has surprised and delighted you lately?
