Searching for Color

I drove to the mountains last week in search of changing leaves. Lovely yellow trees popped out everywhere.

The leaves are showing off the transition between green and yellow.

At first, I was scanning the landscape for yellows, looking for seasonal colors. I was trying to block out the green. After all, the evergreens, the pines, they are always around. Always the same.

Finally I realized what I was really seeing. The yellows are stunning, partly because they stand in contrast to the greens. An all-green world isn’t what autumn colors are all about. But neither is an all-yellow world. So I’ll take them together, in neighboring trees, and sometimes on the same leaf, often on the same tree.

This world is full of wonder because it’s full of color. Why limit ourselves and look for only one? I’m going to try to keep opening my eyes to the wonder around me that’s so easy to miss. I think my trip to the mountains was a little step on that journey.

Wishing you a week of color in your part of the world!

You found it and it is gorgeous! Still waiting for the explosion here, but seeing a few sprays of orange and red.

I like the close up of the second shot and of course love all the colors in the last shot. I think I will never get over missing the colors of autumn. The tradeoff is that we don’t have to worry about ice and snow in the winter. Still would like some color though ๐Ÿ™‚

The yellow against the blue sky is gorgeous. Mother Nature certainly knows how to use color.

Here at the Jersey Shore we don’t often have the stunning colors found in the mountains…yellow & green mean fall to me!

Beautiful color and thoughts, Sharon.
I noticed a lot of our trees have shed their leaves. The Blizzard really did a number on the trees. Yesterday, I spent a little time picking up more branches. Kind of heartbreaking that nature can hurt itself.

We are currently in Atlanta GA for a week but I suspect when we return to the UK all the autumn colour will be well and truly gone ๐Ÿ™

All of these photos are gorgeous, perfect fall photos. But my two favorites are the first and the last. That yellow contrasted against the brilliance of the blue sky is breathtaking. And the last with the fence and multiple colors is fall in all its glory.

Love the colours. You are right if it wasn’t contrasting with the green it wouldn’t be so yellow.

in my mountains, tonight, there are high winds, rain, sleet and COLD; autumn will be over by weekend. I think snow flurries are expected by morning.
