Random 5 Friday: Angel Dogs and Open Gates

posted by Sharon August 9, 2013 17 Comments

In honor of summer drawing to a close, my random 5 this week are a look back at this summer. And they are really random.

1. Running. I started the Couch2 5K running program as summer began. I’m still running! The surprise is how good I feel, how energetic. The first day I was set to run 22 minutes without stopping, I was nervous. The weather was hot, I had never run that long (ever!). When I got to the grass field, a young dog bobbed around, off leash. Her owner stood by but let her greet me. As I took off, the little dog leaped around me, cheering me on. I had my own angel-dog, letting me know we could do this. And I made it the whole way, grinning.

2. Reading. I’ve been reading every book written by Deborah Crombie. I discovered this author only this year. I don’t know how I missed these. This week I’m on my 12th one, Water Like a Stone. Scotland Yard, villages with names like Nantwich and Barbridge, and characters named Gemma and Duncan. If you enjoy British murder mysteries, check these out.

3. Candy Crush. I am addicted to this game. I may be playing it on both my computer and my iPad. I may need an intervention.

4. Movies. We have not been to a movie theater this summer, which is unusual. Nothing came along we really wanted to see. Have you seen any movies lately you would recommend?

5. Peace. This photo of the open gate is, to me, a picture of peace. I love gates. They seem to give an invitation to come in, relax a while, leave behind your worries. This summer has been a time of joy and also more health issues and stress. Peace has been scarce. I’m thinking maybe this next season will be calmer.

How has your summer been this year?

Linking up with Random 5 Friday.

Oh yeah, this is a wonderful photo!
We hoped this year would be a better summer than last year (by my mother’s illness and then at myself) … but it was already the next disaster: the brain tumor in my partner. It went something good, but since there is strong interference, which will remain.
Well, you have to take it as it is and enjoy the beauty of what you still will not.
Such an open gate … –

lovely old gate, I’m a gate person too, the older, the more run down they are the more i’m attracted to them. I’m going to check out DC. One two movies which is unusual too. Good for you on the running, I’m impressed!

I love gates too. It’s been a quick summer this year. Too quick. I’ll have to check out those books you’re talking about. I love to read murder mysteries. We’ve been to several movies over the summer. The most disappointing was The Lone Ranger. The best was Red 2.

Great job running. I have been contemplating starting to run again as well. I like gates also and your picture is beautiful. It’s very calming.

Beautiful picture. I used to play a lot of ‘casual’ games and the only one that I still have on my computer is Zuma. My little grandson begs me to play it…then he will sit on my lap and holler “WIN THIS” or “GET THAT BLUE ONE” or “GET A BOMB” etc. Most distracting, ha ha ๐Ÿ™‚

Sharon,
Congrats on your Couch2 5K and reading. I am an avid walker and understand the great feeling you get from a good workout. I also love to read.

Not much for games and I am not a big tv watcher. I have trouble sitting long enough to dedicate myself to a movie.

Have a great weekend.

Gates draw my eye too, something about their characters I like and then there’s always the beckoning oi one to come in… as to Candy Crush (and Slotomania I might add) I was way to involved, I deleted them from my phone and tablet…

I’ve only been to one movie this summer. R.I.P.D. It was a little on the disappointing side. It wasn’t horrible….I’d watch it again on dvd….just think I expected too much.

I love the gate. I just want to go inside and be still and listen to the birds. How peaceful a scene.

Thanks for stopping by for R5F – To answer your question the Bible Study is on Gideon and the book is by Priscilla Shirer. It’s a really “heavy” book though so I’m not sure how well it will be received by the ladies. I’m having a hard time getting started reading it already.
Wow running…way to go. I can’t run anymore, bad ankles but I do need to start walking again.
I haven’t been to any good movies either lately.
