Quiet

Julian Santa Ysabel Preserve

Have you enjoyed a place of quiet lately? We found a new trail to hike that turned out to be just that.

The Santa Ysabel Preserve near Julian is just a mile or two from the little town, but a world away from noise, people, hustle, bustle. We walked to the sound of the wind in the trees and birdsong. A fire tore through this area 10 years ago. The dead trees still stand, with their white trunks and bare branches.

Old, stately trees that escaped the blaze tangle upwards. They give welcome shade.

We walked on, drinking in the quiet. A gradual low swishing sound grew louder. We arrived at the creek.

Crossing the swirling water, we continued on the other side, up up up to the crest of the hill.

Hiking back, we felt completely relaxed and renewed. The quiet in this preserve is the kind that seeps into the heart and calms the soul.

How about you? Where do you head when you need quiet?

I love finding quiet trails. It’s still quite cold here so we won’t be taking any trails for a while….

for me my daily walks are my quiet time of the day. Love the peace and solitude, just not very keen on the rain

Such relaxing and beautiful images. Makes me look forward to spring here (there’s still lots of snow on the ground in Minnesota).

That is some real country to enjoy! I’m quite envious, living in the city doesn’t have this kind of beauty to enjoy or walk through. So happy to see your quiet place!!

It seems we all experience quiet in nature. I love your pictures that take me on a virtual hike. I can almost smell the fresh air and feel the wind and sun on my face. Walking outside is the ultimate way to clear my head. Thanks for a moment’s peace.

I totally agree Sharon, there is just something so beautiful and soothing to the soul about silence. I believe we are made for silence as much as noise, because in the silence we really tune into God. I love your first photograph of a tree, great contrast and colours.

Love the one by the stream. I would choose to sit there a while and be quiet. Love your photos you shared for Quiet. I love when I can take a walk on a Summer’s day on a trail and just listen to the noisiness of the quiet of nature around me. 🙂

Quiet is always awesome! We moved to a rental house surrounded by dairy farms. Some days, I can sit on the porch and just hear the cows eating grass. I love it!!

That looks like such a fantastic place for a hike and that creek would be a sweet stopping point for a picnic!
