Neighborhood Gates

Ever notice the different styles of gates in a neighborhood? A sample of front gates on my recent walk shows a pleasant variety.

Gates both close off and provide access.  They exclude and invite. They provide privacy and they open up to allow us to share space.

We can build fences in our lives. We also have “gates” that we can open a crack or open wide and let people in. Some of us are naturally more transparent. Being an introvert, I sometimes find it hard to open up and share my life. I’d like to get better at it.

How about you? What kind of “gates” do you feel comfortable with?

Linking up with Texture Tuesday, Sweet Shot Tuesdays,Tuesday Muse, Friday Fences, and Communal Global.

Photos are processed with Kim Klassen’s textures 0303, 2303, and Kristen.

Fantastic gates! I really love that blue one with the flowers draped beside them! You might also be interested in Fridays Fences which is a meme for fences, gates and things beyond them. It’s at http://lifeaccordingtojanandjer.blogspot.com. I know Nancy won’t mind my little plug for them!

Most of the houses in the neighborhood have iron gates, but I really would like to have the classic white wooden gates matching the white picket fences. They just look simply beautiful.

I think the blue gate is my favourite, it looks kind of mysterious

Great gates! I’ve been taking a series of driveway gates as we meander through the country. They are interesting, to say the least.

Very nice collection of gates, Sharon. I too like the blue gate, it’s as if there is a hidden garden waiting to be discovered beyond it.

No gates in our neighborhood (on a golf course and gates/fences are strictly regulated) – but I love a fence and gate and have enjoyed viewing those on your walk.

Love the second one with the archway! Living in a city (even a more suburban like one) there are mainly row homes and apartments! These are so fun to look at!

Hi Sharon! I just love this post and love all the gates. I think someday I could do a blog just on garden gates. I love to keep my garden gate closed with a padlock on it LOL just kidding !

What sweet, pretty gates! I love all of them. They remind me of the ones I used to see when I lived in Santa Barbara – they have such personality! Here, more often than not, the kind of gates we see are the metal kind. Somehow less charming.

Thanks for your comment in my blog. <3 I've been using manual settings now 'bout half year. Last summer was my first summer with DSLR after pocket camera so I used auto settings. It's been quite easy to find right settings during winter time but now that it's so bright it's much more difficult.
