Ice Cream Castles

Bows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I’ve looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way.
 –  Joni Mitchell

This song about clouds reminded me of my last visit with my son Matt and his family. They had just moved to Michigan. We flew above the clouds to see them. The clouds made a magic carpet, taking us to a place we’d never been, to people we love.

The week flew by. The 4 littles are full of boundless energy and fun and life. Our adventures included climbing, driving, a new pet bunny, and the zoo.

Clouds accompanied us on our sad drive to the airport to head home. They formed ice cream castles. And the sun shone through them.

I have a brighter view of clouds than legend Joni Mitchell. They can block the light, but they can also decorate the day. And they bookended a wonderful time with family.

How do you view clouds?

Linking up with a song-inspired party, Song-ography, where the theme this week is “Both Sides Now” by Joni Mitchell.

I love the notion of the clouds carrying us like a magic carpet to the people we love! Glad you enjoyed your visit!

Totally lovin’ that “magic carpet ride” analogy! So very, very true. And the “ice cream castles in the air” was always my favorite line from the song. Beautiful photos that showcase a lovely visit. Thanks for linking up to Song-ography this week.

I love that you had a view of the clouds from the airplane. It’s so cool to be able to fly above the clouds and have blue skies above you. Life is like that too at times. You gave a great analogy with the clouds and traveling to visit loved ones. I enjoyed your post very much.

Visiting through “Songography”. I love your post! Such adorable children! And I also went for the more positives aspects of the song and completely avoided/ignored the dark lyrics!

Beautiful shots and looks as if you had such a fun ( if too short) visit with your son. All the shots of them are so cute and especially love the one of them looking out of the window in semi sillouette . Bet you are looking forward to your next visit!

Your post used the same words, but with such a positive twist – so uplifting. They are like a magic carpet transporting you to a great destination. Love the shots of the kids and their individual personalities and revved energy.

Great post. Thanks!

I like how you’ve combined the family images with the clouds….I get the sense of both sides now. Nicely done.

I agree with you that clouds decorate our day. How boring the sky would be without clouds day in and day out. Besides, what is a sunset without clouds?
