Choose Joy

Coronado Dog beach

Does joy come easy to you this season? Or do you find you have to work at it?

Last week I visited the dog beach in Coronado on a sunny, warm afternoon. One group of dogs, all about the same size, chased each other and frolicked in the waves.

Finally, one of the dogs slowed down and made his way onto the sand. Clearly tired, he stood and caught his breath. And that’s when I noticed something different about him.

This three-legged pup kept up with everyone else. It took more effort, that’s all. Here he is, with his floppy ears, a picture of joy.

When I’m tempted to give in to discouragement or self-pity, I’m going to remember this happy guy. He ran and lived life fully at the beach that day. What a great reminder to choose joy.

Wonderful pooch pictures. My neighbor has a three legged cat who ventures outside every chance he gets.

Such a great post! I live with a 3-legged cat so I know how you must have felt watching that dog just running and having a great time. We can all learn from our furry friends. Happy holidays!

I really love your story. I think I learn a lot from my dogs. One of my favourite sayings is “To err is human, to forgive is canine”. Christmas can be a difficult time for many.

Wonderful series of photos. They do look like they are enjoying life. I would be just as happy if I could be frolicking in the surf with them.

How wonderful that you got to experience the joy in each of the dogs and especially able to see the one who probably had to struggle the most to be able to once again enjoy the Joy of running. Perseverence and kudos to that puppy. ๐Ÿ™‚ Love that you shared the photos. How fun…

The dogs look so happy and carefree, the photos are great. That 3 legged guy looks like my dog except for the leg thing.

Wonderful photos Sharon and great example of how much animals can teach us… their instinct is so pure. I find joy comes easier when, like them, we don’t overthink the situation and just enjoy the moment. Thank you for the reminder ๐Ÿ™‚

Some of my favorites! Dogs on the beach or dogs in the snow. Yes, we so need to choose joy. Thanks.

Very true, sometimes joy is hard at this time of year when I want to be with family but I find joy in being with Mr Sparky and in seeing the beauty around us. I hope your Christmas season and the following year are filled with joy.

I’m pretty joyful throughout the year. You’re right, the dog didn’t let anything slow him down! That’s a beautiful beach, and it’s nice to see the dogs able to enjoy it, too.
