Chester’s Flowers

posted by Sharon February 13, 2014 38 Comments

This week my find is this handsome cat. Meet Chester. He lives at the home where we went for my daughter’s wedding shower. He was cooped up in a bedroom through the festivities. When almost everyone had left, he was let loose. He sauntered through the kitchen, on to the living room. He found the fresh flowers.

He chomped on them. Little green leaves fell from his mouth. Luckily, he was easily distracted by bits of wrapping paper. Then he sat down and posed for his portrait.

Here are my random 5 for this week (random, indeed):

1. Are you an animal lover? I’m immediately drawn to cats, dogs, bunnies, rats — whatever animal is in the room. I fell in love with Chester in 2 minutes. I hope I’m normal.

2. I’m reading The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. It’s about a teenager who has cancer. Treatment can buy her time but not hope for a cure. The story looks at questions about what life means, how we will be remembered, and the value of honest conversation. I’m halfway through and I must say it’s written in poetic lines.

“Do you know what Dom Perignon said after inventing champagne? He         called out to his fellow monks, ‘Come quickly: I am tasting the stars.'”

3. We finished watching the entire series of Foyle’s War. If you love history and human nature, you will love this drama. It’s set during World War II. I marvel at the autos and buses from that era that still run. Every detail is vintage — typewriters, hats and sweaters, telephones. This is a fine, artistic, well written program. The next season is being filmed now and I can’t wait to see it.

4. I’ve been asked for input on music for the wedding processional and recessional. Any suggestions? I’m not fond of the traditional wedding march . . .

5. Here are the flowers Chester tried to eat. For all of you who are in the wintery white lands, here’s a bit of color for you to enjoy.

How about you? How is your week going? Do you love animals?

Chester is one handsome fella. I love the quote and bet the book is very thought provoking – sometimes the mind and soul needs a dose of that. Good luck with the music – I tend to feel it should be ‘married’ (so to speak) with the tone of the wedding including flowers, dress and atmosphere. A traditional dress, location, and general wedding design might be awkward with modern/pop melodies. Or at least it would be to my senses – but it is in the end a personal thing.

Adorable Chester! I catch my cat nibbling at my plants from time to time. I guess they are eager for spring’s fresh grass, too!

Chester is quite the handsome fellow. If I have fresh flowers they must be up on the room divider because I learned that my cat will do the same if I have them on the table or within her reach! 🙂

My cats love fresh flowers but will settle for a fresh plant. As we speak my miniature roses are slowly being devoured. Aha, the price we pay for loving our pets.

Great post. I too am a lover of any animal – sometimes more so than people. Was researching The Fault is in the Stars for my next book to read this week. Thanks for the positive review. I always cry when I hear the traditional wedding march – so I’m no help there.

Hence why poor Chester had to stay in the bathroom, or there wouldn’t be any flowers left.

Definitely a dog and cat lover here. Cats were a learned experience, but I was born a dog lover.

Here is a suggestion on wedding music. We consulted with and hired this musician to play at our wedding. All the music was chosen by us, and she altered it to fit our desires.

You might consider doing something similar with a local musician in your area.

Aww poor Chester…my Katie could relate about being put up when visitors come. The flowers are beautiful…and I wouldn’t have a clue about a song for a processional, but I just saw a video with a bride singing “Look at Me” while she walked down the aisle and it was sooo sweet. Something like that might be nice. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day, Sharon!

I am a dog person. We grew up with house cats. Now, Mom, Sister and I all have dogs. Not sure how that happened.

Thanks for the book suggestion. I will look that one up.

First I LOVE Chester. He is so cute. I am an animal lover to the max!

2nd…when our oldest daughter got married she too hated the usual “wedding” music but found an album called “The Modern Wedding Collection” by The Vitamin String Collection. It had modern music that was kind of “classicalized.” It was perfect.

I always say I love anything with fur! And so do a lot of women I know, so yep, you are normal.

Oh, Foyle’s War is the best! It is our favorite series! I always tell everyone about it if they give me half a chance!

Now, have you watched New Tricks. It is modern day. I had seen the title of the show and it just did not appeal to me…then I happened to watch it and totally loved it, too. It is modern day cop show where they solve cold cases. It is a regular show, but has laugh out loud comments sometimes. Sandra, who is in charge, is probably in her 40’s and her crew is 3 old retired cops. It is wonderful.

Yes I do love animals (especially cats) and Chester is really handsome. I would have fallen in love with him too.
People need to be careful about letting kitties nibble on flowers though as many are quite poisonous to cats.
I love the traditional “Here Comes the Bride” but there are many who prefer something less traditional. I know one that sounds nice is Elvis, Fools Rush In or perhaps the couple’s favorite song.
Happy Valentine’s Day.

Your image of the cat is splendid. I do love animals as well. Have you heard any of the soundtrack from Pride and Prejudice? It is lovely and you may like some of those songs. What a pretty bouquet I’m glad you were able to save it from the cat.

Chester sounds full of personality – I am a huge animal lover! I have that book on my kindle and strict orders from my daughter to get to reading it. She loved it as well. Beautiful flowers – always a joy to see.
