The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold . . .
Nat King Cole
Are you still enjoying autumn leaves? Or has your season moved into bare branches and snow on the ground? In the southern California drought, some trees are just now turning. Some are confused and still green but drying up without displaying color. The most lovely leaves of this autumn for me were those in the Lake Tahoe area a few weeks back. Yellows showed up in profusion.
Full trees laden with yellow are beautiful. What I noticed is that finding a few leaves sprouting color in unexpected places is also a delight.
And one red leaf offers infinite beauty.
Tahoe boasts so many evergreens, and I found that the green set off the yellow so well. These colors are neighbors on the color wheel, after all.
Nature holds beauty in sweeping vistas and close-ups, in all the colors. It’s fun to look for the bright yellows and brilliant reds among the stately greens. Add in a blue sky and the day is a treasure.
How about you? What does your world look like this week?

Oh boy, you are really making me want to head back to Tahoe. I still haven’t edited all my photos from August! Guess what I’ll be doing this week :). Thanks for sharing at Song-ography.
I love the Aspens in Tahoe in the fall.
What a blazing collection!
We’ve hit gray skies and bare branches here. Still some lingering leaves, hanging on for dear life!
I am in love with all the autumn leaves I keep seeing on the internet. Such beautiful colors mother nature has gifted us.
Sadly all our autumn leaves are gone, swept away by wind and rain

beautiful colors, all bare here 🙂
Your Tahoe foliage images are spectacular! We had some pretty leaves in NE Oregon last month and I captured some beautiful red ones in Portland (OR) in mid-October.
These are awesome autumn shots! I love to see it as I don’t see it much here in New Zealand. Most trees are pine.
i love you idea of “confused trees”! Beautiful pictures!
All of your pictures are lovely, but I especially the close ups of just the little colorful leaves. We have NO color left in our neck of the woods.
These colors are so beautiful! Our fall seemed as if it would never come, and it finally arrived with more color this past week…just in time for Christmas! 🙂
